London Christmas Course 2019
|Venue||Heath St Baptist Church|
About the course
Come and sing with us at Christmas! This is a special course with special music!
At the splendid Heath St Baptist Church, there will be plenty of opportunity to learn new music, whilst working on singing technique with expert coaches.
Repertoire will include Gaudate (traditional) plus festive music by Peter Warlock, Thomas Ravenscroft, John Joubert, John Rutter plus some traditional favourites.
Our courses are for children and young adults who love to sing and are devised to improve their general musicianship, technical ability and confidence. We receive great feedback from families who say how much their children have enjoyed The Oxford & Cambridge Singing School’s courses.
The day will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. There will be an informal concert starting at 3.30 to which families are warmly invited to attend.
About the venue
Heath St Baptish Church was founded in 1861. It stands halfway between Hampstead High Street and the famous Heath and only a few minutes walk from Hampstead Heath tube station.
Their openness owes much to their forebears – the Baptists of Hampstead – who, in the nineteenth century, worshipped in an upstairs room of a house on Holly Bush Hill and there in 1825 the church decided to open its Communion Service to all believers.
They owe their building not least to the generosity of James Harvey – a London merchant and deacon of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church – who, recently widowed, moved out of the city to Hampstead for the sake of his young son’s failing health. As a ‘Thank You’ to God for his son’s subsequent recovery, he bought what was then a plot of land used as a fruit and vegetable garden and set about the building of what was to become Heath Street Baptist Church.
